Title: Awards honour local heroes on Australia Day
Local Members on the southside have joined together to honour community heroes at an awards ceremony in Moorooka this Australia Day.

Federal Member for Moreton Graham Perrett, State Member for Yeerongpilly Simon Finn and Moorooka Ward Councillor Steve Griffiths presented the Awards as part of Australia Day celebrations in Pegg's Park.

Mr Perrett said Moorooka's Lianne and Glen Woodcroft received the Sir James Killen Award for Outstanding Community Service.

"Lianne and Glen are the kind of people you want living in your neighbourhood," Mr Perrett said.

"They've lived in Moorooka for more than 50 years and together help and support those less fortunate.

"Through St Vincent de Paul they regularly distribute food parcels and vouchers and also repair and donate bikes to needy children.

"I was honoured once again to have Lady (Benise) Killen present the Award in honour of her late husband and former Liberal Member for Moreton Sir James Killen."

Mr Perrett said the awards were a great way to recognise the hard work and dedication of people on the southside.

"You could bet that all these people do what they do not for reward but to make our community a better place to live," he said.

"Australia Day is an important time of the year and an appropriate time to recognise great Australians like Lianne and Glen Woodcroft."
