Graham Perrett MP - Federal Member for Moreton

The Moreton Electorate

Moreton is close to the thriving heart of Brisbane but not too close. We are blessed with the peaceful Brisbane River to the north, the rugged beauty of Karawatha Forest to the south and the lungs of Oxley Creek to the west, and in the middle there is Toohey Forest and Griffith University. Moreton is also home to three other state-of-the-art training facilities, fantastic schools and great hospitals.

Moreton has some of Australia's major roads and train lines and is the engine room of manufacturing in Queensland.

Moreton covers an area of approximately 106 sq km from Fairfield in the north, Graceville, Rocklea and Archerfield in the west, Eight Mile Plains and Kuraby in the east to Drewvale and Berrinba in the South. The main suburbs include Archerfield, Chelmer, Fairfield, Graceville, Karawatha, Kuraby, Macgregor, Moorooka, Nathan, Robertson, Rocklea, Runcorn, Salisbury, Stretton, Sunnybank, Sunnybank Hills, Tennyson, Yeronga and Yeerongpilly and parts of Algester, Calamvale, Coopers Plains, Drewvale, Eight Mile Plains, Sherwood and Tarragindi.

History

Moreton is a Federation seat proclaimed in 1901. Captain Cook named Moreton Bay in 1770 after the Earl of Morton, which was misspelt to become Moreton.
